About Grant

I am a qualified secondary school Design and Technology teacher with experience delivering Product Design and Engineering at KS3 and GCSE level. I currently teach CAD as part of my role and have a strong understanding of how students develop technical and creative skills over time. My lessons are structured, clear, and aligned with what students are expected to achieve in school, while also going beyond this to develop real-world design thinking.

Alongside teaching, I have a background in design and 3D modelling, giving me practical experience of how CAD is used outside of the classroom. This allows me to support students not only in learning the software, but in understanding how to apply it effectively to real design problems.

I am used to working with a wide range of learners, including those who are new to CAD as well as those who need additional support to build confidence. I take pride in creating a calm, supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes as part of the learning process.

As a practising teacher, I understand the importance of safeguarding, professionalism, and clear communication with both students and parents. My aim is to provide high-quality, reliable tuition that helps students make clear and measurable progress while enjoying the process of learning design.

I take a practical, hands-on approach to teaching CAD, focusing on building real understanding through doing rather than just watching. My sessions are structured around short demonstrations followed by guided tasks and independent challenges, allowing students to develop confidence with SketchUp and AutoCAD at their own pace. I break down technical skills into simple, manageable steps and use real-world design contexts so that students can clearly see the purpose behind what they are learning.

A typical lesson lasts one hour. This usually includes a short recap, a live demonstration of a new skill, a guided build where the student follows along, and a challenge task where they apply the skill independently. I finish each session with feedback and clear next steps, helping students improve quickly and stay motivated.

I am a qualified secondary school Design and Technology teacher with experience teaching Product Design and Engineering at KS3 and GCSE level. I regularly teach CAD in the classroom and understand how to support a wide range of learners, including those who are complete beginners or who may lack confidence with digital tools. My background in design also allows me to go beyond software skills and help students think like designers, developing ideas, solving problems, and creating purposeful outcomes.

Lessons are suitable for KS3 and GCSE students, as well as beginners who are interested in learning CAD for the first time. I tailor each session to the individual, whether they need support with school work, want to build a portfolio, or are simply interested in developing creative and technical skills through design.
