About David

I was born in Rochford, Essex. However, since then I've moved around a lot! I have lived in Auckland, Brighton and London to name a few cities. I spent time in my early twenties travelling around Asia, including India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and China.

I studied Creative Writing at the University of Winchester, obtaining a high 2:1 grade and winning various work placements, including time at ITV Meridian.

After university and the travelling I worked in software sales on a graduate scheme before moving into marketing at an agency in Hertfordshire. I worked as a copywriter on accounts such as Tesco & DHL. However, I found this a little impersonal and corporate, so moved to a start-up marketing agency.

After two great years I decided that I wanted to start my own business and so Joppa came to be! I have been in business for five months. However, given the current climate I wanted to scale up slowly and feel it's a good time to work as a tutor.

I can offer both academic support and some context in terms of how these skills can be transferred into the workplace and your own company, if starting a business is something you'd like to do in future.

About the lesson

I keep lessons structured yet informal. It's really important to build up a rapport with the people I tutor, and I always start by ascertaining their objectives and the reasons they have sought out tutoring support.

Lessons are with 30, 45 or 60 minutes.

My lessons are aimed at people from 11 - 60.

It's vital to get some objectives agreed on early so that tutoring sessions can be quantifiable in their success.

I'm based in Chichester on the South Coast of England, and outside of my company and tutoring I love scuba diving, chess and football.
