About Eileen
Hi, I’m Eileen! I’m a second-year Medical Student at the University of Oxford and an experienced GCSE and A-level tutor.
I achieved 12 grade 9s at GCSE and 3 A*s at A-level, and have since ranked within the top decile of my year at Oxford. However, one of the most important things I have learnt throughout my education is that academic success is not simply about being “naturally clever”.
My own results have come from persistence, curiosity, developing effective study techniques and learning how to translate understanding into marks in an exam.
This is a large part of why I enjoy tutoring.
I know how much difference the right explanation, study strategy or piece of feedback can make when a student is struggling with a topic.
I want to help students understand why something works rather than feeling that they have to memorise endless facts.
Having recently been through GCSEs and A-levels myself, I also understand the pressure students can feel around exams. I aim to create a friendly and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, getting things wrong and working through difficult concepts without judgement.
Ultimately, I want my students to leave lessons not only better prepared for their exams, but more confident in their own ability to learn and tackle unfamiliar problems independently.

My approach prioritises genuine understanding over memorisation, creating a supportive environment where students can ask questions, make mistakes, and build confidence.
Lessons are tailored to each student and typically include:
• Clear, step-by-step explanations of key concepts•
Active recall and targeted questioning
• Exam-style questions to build application and exam technique
• Identifying and addressing gaps in knowledge
• Reviewing mistakes to improve answers• Regular consolidation of prior content
For GCSE students, I can follow school content while targeting weaker areas of the specification. As exams approach, lessons focus more on past papers, exam technique, and targeted revision.
A typical lesson lasts one hour, adapted to the student’s needs and goals.
I tutor GCSE Biology, Chemistry, and Maths, as well as A-level Biology and Chemistry.
Studying Medicine at Oxford has strengthened my understanding of science beyond school level and reinforced the importance of deep conceptual learning over rote memorisation.
My goal is to help students become confident, independent learners who can approach unfamiliar questions logically and effectively.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor.
Eileen has been really helpful in assisting me with biology. For Biology, one of the biggest things that helped me was the way she taught me to formulate essay plans. We practiced planning essays around the main themes, and I actually used the same approach in my exam. She also helped me make links between topics across the specification, which made it much easier to understand how different concepts connected and to apply my knowledge to unfamiliar questions.
I also really appreciated how she was able to simplify complex ideas through clear explanations and little diagrams, which made difficult topics much easier to understand and remember. The bullet point summaries she put together after each lesson were incredibly useful too; they made revision so much more manageable and gave me a clear set of notes to look at.
For Medicine interview preparation, the practice MMIs we did were great. They really helped build my confidence, and your feedback taught me how to structure my answers in a way that interviewers are looking for while still sounding natural. I felt much more prepared going into my interviews because of all the practice we did together.
I would highly recommend Eileen to anyone that needs help with biology and interview preparation.View more recommendations
