About Dillon

I am a freelance linguist and teacher with a passion for diverse languages, literatures, and cultures. As a recent graduate of the University of Oxford's renowned MPhil in Linguistics, as well as holding a BA in Ancient Languages from UCL, I am an expert in both historical and modern languages, theoretical linguistics, and language education. Having worked with students from all backgrounds, from schoolchildren with special needs, to university students, to retired adults, I have the breadth of experience necessary to work with learners of all abilities with patience and passion.

About the lesson

My expertise lies in classical and religious languages, including Sanskrit, Ancient Greek, and Biblical Hebrew, as well as modern Mandarin Chinese, as major languages that have shaped world history and culture. As such, my classes revolve around working with these languages in their natural forms as quickly as possible. I believe that using real materials produced by native speakers such as historical texts, literary documents, or modern media is essential for quickly immersing yourself in a language and maintaining the passion to learn. While lessons in grammar and vocabulary may be guided by the latest academic textbooks, classes are tailored to students' personal interests from the very beginning. For instance, whether you're looking to learn Sanskrit to study a specific philosophy, or learn Hebrew for your religious practice, we can work directly towards your goals from the first lesson. Otherwise, feel free to let your curiosity guide you as we tour through different genres and topics, and see what interests you most! Having taught in both secondary schools and adult education centres, I am well-equipped to teach students of all levels and abilities from age 12 to 100. Lessons can last either 1 or 2 hours according to your preference, and can take place online or face-to-face in the London area.
