About Amanda

As someone who's been through school and had to figure out my own academic difficulties, I'm a tutor who is committed to helping craft a lesson plan specific to your's or your student's needs. We all come up against tough spots, so let's work on them together and get you where you need to be!

I have a BA in French from Sonoma State University, lived in Paris for a year as a student, and currently work as a translation specialist for French to English content. I've been through French class, attended French club, and work professionally with French every day --and I'd love to share what I've learned with you to help you meet your own French goals!

About the lesson

I like to start by chatting with my students to find out where they identify their own weak spots to be. Our next step will be to develop a lesson plan with a stated goal in mind: I want to be able to read this book, I want to get an A on my next French test, I want to be able to talk with Grandma back in France.

Every student has specific needs, and no two students learn exactly the same way, so let's work together and figure out what lesson plans and exercises work best for you!

I offer weekend and evening tutoring sessions online via Zoom and encourage parents to sit in with us while we get started so that we can discuss the best steps moving forward. These sessions range from 30 to 60 minutes depending on the student's needs.

My tutoring services are aimed at middle-school, high-school, and first-year university French students to help build vocabulary, reading and listening comprehension, and accent coaching. My lesson plans focus on immersion, involving recommendations for music, tv media, films, and online content that engages your student personally to get them listening to, seeing, and reading French in a way that interests them.

We'll typically start the lesson with some simple conversation to get yourself or your student thinking and speaking in French. Then we'll work on French homework if your student has any and look at any upcoming test requirements or chapter check-ins. Finally, we'll finish out with a quick read-through or analysis of an interest piece (something the student picks out like song lyrics, a short video, or a news article).

Lesson plans can be adjusted to focus more heavily on any aspect that will best fit the students needs, like a higher emphasis on test preparation, or more of a focus on conversation and listening.
