About Mehrdad

I am a dedicated Data Science student at Sapienza University with a passion for both learning and teaching. As a Teaching Assistant at universities I’ve attended, I honed my ability to simplify complex concepts and present them in an engaging manner. This experience not only deepened my understanding of data science but also allowed me to mentor and support fellow students effectively.

Additionally, my participation in programming contests has sharpened my problem-solving skills, enhanced my ability to code efficiently, and fostered teamwork. These challenges have equipped me with a strong technical foundation and a competitive edge. My combined expertise in technical skills and mentoring makes me genuinely committed to helping others excel in their learning journey.

  • Can you tell us about your first experience using a computer?

My father got us our first PC when I was in elementary school, in the first grade. The system included 32MB of GPU and 256GB of RAM. The only game I could play at the time was Grand Theft Auto IV, which occasionally lags but is still a fun game. When I was eight years old, our PC developed a glitch. There was no screen display. I had heard at the time that viruses could prevent a PC from operating properly. I was attempting to resolve the issue on my own because I was afraid to tell my father. I have no idea how the issue was resolved when I switched to safe mode, installed an antivirus program, and began scanning my computer for viruses.
  • What is the technological evolution that has marked you most and what will be, in your eyes, a turning point in this field?

The development of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning has been one of the most significant technological advancements in recent years. It has been transforming to see how AI is being incorporated into everyday life in a variety of ways, from virtual assistants to sophisticated data analytics. In the future, quantum computing is clearly going to be a game-changer. The creation of useful quantum computers has the potential to completely transform computing power and solve challenging issues at previously unthinkable speeds.
  • Explain your expertise, your interest in it and, more broadly, its importance in the computer world.

I am currently a Master of Data Science student with a Bachelor of Computer Engineering with a Software concentration. My education has exposed me to a wide range of concepts, from simple data structures to Cloud Computing and Neural Networks. I've been using C++ and Python for over 5 years and am now proficient in both. These days, I'm working on Federated Learning, a new learning paradigm that combines Distributed Learning and Data Confidentiality and will be a very powerful tool in the coming years. This new learning paradigm would allow us to train models based on confidential data, primarily health care data, without fear of leakage, resulting in better models to predict health problems in people.
  • Do so-called 'visionaries', such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg inspire you or do you have other role models?

Visionaries such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Mark Zuckerberg are unquestionably iconic figures who have left indelible marks on the technological landscape. These individuals are frequently admired for their entrepreneurial spirit, innovative thinking, and the transformative companies they founded, namely Microsoft, Apple, and Facebook. While their stories inspire many, the world of technology is full of diverse talents and unknown figures who make significant contributions to its evolution. Each developer, engineer, and scientist who pushes the boundaries of what is possible contributes to the field's advancement.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

When I was studying for my Bachelor's degree, we had to take out all of the use cases of an IT product and account for all of the details of that project for the software engineering course. We worked in a group of five people on that project for one month. We only had one copy of the project's final version on my friend's laptop. My friend's laptop broke the day before the presentation to the professor, and we lost the entire project. We could only show the professor a rough draft. We explained the situation to him, and he gave us a week to complete the project with a 5 point penalty for the delay. When I discussed the project with my groupmates, no one agreed to assist me in completing it. They told me that it was impossible to complete a task that would normally take a month in one week. I worked on that project all week, day and night, by myself. Finally, I completed the project, and we handed it over to the professor. Our professor liked it so much that he waived the project penalty and later offered me a contract to work with him as a software engineer.
  • What would you say to an uncomfortable person in front of a screen who says that "IT is too complicated"?

It's normal to feel overwhelmed by the complicated nature of technology, especially if it's new to you. However, I would advise them to consider IT as a vast landscape with numerous entry points and levels of complexity. Beginning with the fundamentals, such as understanding the fundamental concepts and gradually building on that knowledge, can help to make the learning process more manageable. Seeking guidance from online tutorials, courses, or participating in supportive communities can also provide valuable resources. It can be reassuring to remember that everyone, including experts, began as learners facing challenges. The key is to start small, be patient with the learning curve, and, most importantly, enjoy the journey of discovery at your own pace.
  • What are your other passions, related or non-related to computers?

As far as I recall, I was madly in love with football. I'm confident that if I hadn't been a data scientist, I would have been a fantastic football player by now. In general, I'm very good at any sport, and I'm also a quick learner. Aside from that, I'm currently obsessed with poker. Really interesting game that combines randomness, skill, and luck.
  • What makes you a Superprof in IT?

My parents were both teachers, so I believe I inherited the ability to teach. In order to utilize the most of my abilities while studying for my Bachelor's degree, I applied to be the TA for one programming course at my university. I proved that I am very good at teaching, explaining, and simplifying concepts for others. I've had 8 TAing experiences so far, and I'd like to expand into being a private tutor. That is why I selected SuperProf as the best platform for the job.
