About Lee-Ann

I have been teaching since 2005. I have been a singer & performer since 1994, before I was even in secondary school.
I have 2 music degrees, 1 in Music Industry and the other a Bachelor of Arts. I am also a fully qualified teacher, achieving a PGCE/Pcet in 2009 although I had already been teaching at college level from 2006.
I have been teaching vocal practice, performance & music theory as well as stagecraft privately for almost 20 years. In this time, my singers have achieved many goals successfully in their careers.

Some of my singers have become touring musicians, recording artistes, session singers & actors. Some have taken part in competitions and reached final rounds for X Factor & BGT. Others have kept singing for fun and sometimes sing on social media posts. A lot of my singers write and perform their own music or work with bands to record - 2 of them have gone on to become PGCE/Pcet qualified themselves!

I'm always so very proud of anything my students have achieved & most of them keep me up to date on their career progression or anything they're doing musically.

About the lesson

I am a fully qualified teacher & have seen hundreds of students go through my classroom.
I have taught every subject within music industry & have experience working in most of the roles relating to live shows & music recording. I use the knowledge I have of other sectors to give a new viewpoint on vocal performance.
I teach you
*Performance & Facial Expression
*Use of a mic
*How to work with sound/lights to give your best performance
*Working in a studio
*Stagecraft and lots of other things that go hand in hand with singing.

Vocal techniques include
*Posture work
*Vocal warm ups & exercises
*Breathing
*Building strength
*Pitching/note recognition

One of my lessons would typically start with stretching & neck relaxation, posture improvement & getting your breathing right.
We would then move on to warm up exercises to work on technique & singing back the correct notes.
Depending on your level & goals, I would then work with you on scales, techniques to build strength, exercises to improve volume control, facial expression & performance.
I always spend around 40% of lessons with you working on a song.
You get to put the techniques you've learned into practice as well as perfecting those songs you want to perform or record.

If it's something you are aiming for, I can also enter you for examinations & work on the things you would need to pass.

I take students from age 6, but have taught younger, depending on their understanding and capabilities.
There is no upper age limit.

I absolutely believe that ANYBODY is able to learn how to sing!
The voice is mostly muscle, and, in the same way that you could train your arms to lift weights or your legs to run a 10K, you CAN strengthen the muscles in your voice & train them to work melodically.

The typical length for a lesson is 1 to 1.5 hrs...anything longer than this will tire your voice when you're just learning. Homework is essential! You only get out of your voice whatever practice you put into it. It is recommended that you find around 10-30 minutes per day to work on techniques learned in sessions. I also recommend that you work on your songs 2-5 times a week for around 30-60 minutes.

With my sessions, you also get a free vocal anatomy course where you learn what is actually inside the voice, how the voice works, what's good/bad for your voice etc.
