About Dr Amit
I am a PhD-qualified Astronomer and currently work as a Spaceflight Imager Engineer at The Open University, UK. My career combines astronomy, physics, space science and hands-on engineering, allowing me to bring real-world scientific experience into my teaching.
I have worked as a researcher at the University of Warwick and Royal Holloway, University of London, and I am involved in international astronomy and planetary exploration collaborations, including ESA and NASA programmes. My experience covers astronomical observations, space imaging instruments, CCD/CMOS detectors, image analysis, spectroscopy, Python programming and scientific data analysis.
I have spent nearly a decade working with professional telescopes and have presented my research at national and international conferences. I enjoy explaining complex scientific ideas in a clear and approachable way and helping students understand not just the equations, but the physics behind them.

My lessons are designed to make Physics, Astronomy, Electronics and Engineering clear, engaging and connected to the real world. With a PhD in Astronomy & Astrophysics and professional experience as a Spaceflight Imager Test Engineer, I bring both academic knowledge and hands-on experience from scientific research and space instrumentation into my teaching.
I adapt every lesson to the student’s level, goals and learning style. Rather than simply memorising equations, I focus on developing a strong understanding of the underlying concepts and then applying them through examples, problem-solving and practical situations.
I can help with topics ranging from fundamental Physics and Astronomy to more advanced areas such as astrophysics, astronomical observations, telescopes and detectors, CCD/CMOS imaging, scientific instrumentation, electronics, data analysis and Python for scientific applications.
My background includes extensive observational astronomy experience, astronomical image and spectroscopy analysis, scientific programming, and work involving space imaging instruments. This allows me to explain not only how a concept works in theory, but also how Physics and Engineering are actually applied in astronomy, research and space missions.
Whether you are preparing for exams, struggling with a particular concept, studying at university, or simply interested in learning more about astronomy and space technology, I will structure the lessons around what you want to achieve.
My aim is simple: understand the concept, learn how to apply it, and build the confidence to solve problems independently.
