About Matas
I am a PhD student in Human Genetics at McGill. Naturally, I have a pretty deep understanding of biology and chemistry as it is in my field of research. Before moving to Montreal, I lived in Singapore for 7 years where I tutored throughout my undergraduate degree. I have taught 5 students O-level Chemistry, 2 students IB Chemistry, 3 students O-level Biology and 1 student IB Biology. Most of these students I taught for half a year to a year which shows that my students like me and that I can take them from grade C to grade A if given enough time.

My teaching methodology primarily relies on continually asking the student to explain how they understand the material being taught during the class. If the student can explain it - then they understand it!
I always strive to make the content of the class interesting to students so that when they leave the classroom, they are excited about science.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor.
I know Matas from working together in a biology research lab. Even though his own schedule was busy, he always took time to help newer students with the basics of molecular biology, data analysis, and general chemistry concepts they had forgotten from class.
What stands out about Matas is how he teaches: he listens carefully, figures out exactly where you’re stuck, and then uses simple examples or analogies to make complex ideas click. I’ve watched him turn very anxious students into people who felt comfortable handling experimental protocols and interpreting results. He’s reliable, kind, and extremely knowledgeable in both chemistry and biology, and I recommend him wholeheartedly as a tutor.I met Matas at university, where we took several chemistry and biology modules together and often studied side-by-side for exams. He was always the person everyone turned to when a concept didn’t make sense – from acid–base equilibria to cell signalling pathways, he could break it down clearly and calmly.
Matas explains things step by step, checks that you’re following, and never makes you feel silly for asking questions. I’ve seen him stay after long study sessions to help classmates who were struggling, and they consistently walked away more confident. He is organized, patient, and genuinely cares that people understand the material, which is why I think he would make an excellent and trustworthy tutor on Superprof.Matas tutored my younger sibling in high-school chemistry and biology, so I’ve seen firsthand how he works as a teacher. He didn’t just go through the textbook; he prepared structured lessons, practice questions, and short “cheat sheets” that made revision much less overwhelming.
My sibling went from dreading science to actually enjoying it, and their grades improved noticeably over the term. Matas is patient, punctual, and very good at adapting his explanations to someone’s level. Because of his reliability and the clear progress I saw, I fully trust him and strongly recommend him to anyone looking for a science tutor on Superprof.I’ve known Matas for years and he’s the person I always call before a big exam or deadline when I’m stuck on a concept. Whether it’s reaction mechanisms in organic chemistry or tricky genetics problems, he can quickly identify what I’m not understanding and explain it in a way that suddenly makes sense.
His teaching style is calm, supportive, and very structured – he starts with the basics, builds up to harder examples, and checks in frequently to see if you’re following. He is also extremely dependable; if he says he’ll be there to help you prepare, he will. I completely trust Matas and think he would be a great, reassuring tutor for any student.View more recommendations
