About Laura
I am a PhD-qualified university teacher specialising in film, media, screen culture and digital culture. I have taught and marked undergraduate work across Film, Media, World Cinema, Screen Studies and related humanities subjects, and I am experienced in helping students develop stronger analytical skills, clearer written arguments and greater confidence with academic expectations.
My academic background means I am especially well placed to support students who are studying Media Studies, History of Cinema, Digital Communication, Philosophy, English Literature, Drama or related subjects. I understand how difficult it can be to move from having good ideas to expressing them in a focused, well-structured and convincing way, so my tutoring is designed to make academic writing, close analysis and critical theory feel more manageable.
I am patient, encouraging and highly attentive to each student’s individual needs. I aim to create a calm and supportive learning environment where students feel able to ask questions, test out ideas and build confidence without feeling judged. Whether you need help preparing for exams, improving coursework, understanding theory, analysing films or media texts, or making the transition from college/secondary school to university-level study, I can help you develop practical skills that will continue to be useful beyond a single assignment or exam.

My tutoring approach is supportive, structured and student-led. I focus on helping students move from having interesting ideas to expressing them clearly, confidently and academically. In lessons, we usually work through a mixture of close analysis, discussion, essay planning, argument-building, terminology, critical concepts and feedback on written work. I adapt each session to the student’s needs, whether they are preparing for exams, improving coursework, developing confidence with theory, or learning how to meet higher academic standards.
A typical lesson lasts one hour, although longer sessions can be arranged for essay planning, coursework support or university preparation. I aim to make lessons clear and focused, with achievable goals for each session and practical strategies students can use independently afterwards.
My lessons are suitable for GCSE, A-level, college and early university students, as well as learners preparing to move from further education into higher education. I can support students studying Media Studies, History of Cinema, Digital Communication, Philosophy, English Literature, Drama and related subjects, particularly where they need help with essay writing, analysis, theory, coursework or academic confidence.
