About Garrett

Repetition is the path to success. We can't declare that we are incapable of doing something, or claim we are bad at something, without ever actually putting in the effort. I used to say I was bad at public speaking before college, but I quickly discovered that the issue was my lack of preparation. I didn't read the entire book I was presenting on and did not rehearse my presentation, for example. It is possible for one to maintain a good grade by only showing up to class and completing work on time, but does that mean they truly understand the material? Lebron James hasn't achieved what he has by just showing up to practice and games. This goes for any great in their respective craft, and holds true in academics. I know from experience, if you truly apply yourself to learning a subject, you will be surprised by what you are capable of and the motivation this instills in you to keep growing. You may open one door to find many more you would like to walk through.

About the lesson

During online sessions, I share my iPad screen so that I am able to write the material on the board and students are able to follow along. Further, I am able to share the file after the session, which provides a reference of the material for the future. It also allows students to engage in the listen, rather than rushing to write down all of the material. I truly believe knowledge, just like skill, comes from repetition/practice. During my lessons, I like to give students time to solve examples on their own prior to trying it together. Also, I like to provide additional examples for students to try on their own time, which we can go over together as desired. After all, only taking jumpshots during practice will not be enough to become a good shooter.

My lessons are primarily designed for college level students (undergraduate and graduate), but also for motivated high school students.
