About Richard

Hi, I'm Richard. A photographer based in East London with twenty years of professional experience behind the camera — originally spanning fashion, editorial and commercial work, including almost eleven years as Senior Photographer at YOOX Net-a-Porter Group.

Alongside that, six years at Calumet Photographic as a Senior Digital Imaging Consultant — advising professional photographers, studios and institutions on workflow, colour accuracy and image quality, running workshops and guest lecturing at the Royal College of Surgeons. That role gave me an extensive working knowledge of all mainstream and high-end camera systems, digital asset management and the editing software that drives the creative industry — Adobe Creative Suite, Affinity Suite, Capture One and DXO among them.

For the last twelve of those twenty years, I've also been paying attention to what photography can teach us about ourselves.

I've come to understand that photographs don't just reveal the world in front of the lens. They reveal the person behind it. What you stop for. What you leave out. What you keep coming back to without knowing why. Used honestly, a camera is one of the most direct tools I know for exploring your relationship to the world.

About the lesson

Street photography is a form of photography that has been around since the invention of the camera and is one that sits at the heart of the craft. Over my two decades of working as a professional commercial photographer, I have used street photography as a way to discover myself and my relationship to the world. It is a passion of mine which I would love to share with you.

Every lesson I offer will be built around your needs no matter your experience or skill level. Even if you are just starting out and only have a phone to hand, all is welcome. I like to take an unconventional path by allowing the techniques to follow the vision by having a concept-first approach to teaching. I believe that once you understand what you are looking for the technical side will take care of itself.

Topics can include anything within street photography; Working on the street, working with your archive, printing, developing a personal project through to publishing your own book. In-person photowalks in London can also be catered for. If there’s something specific you would like to explore, we can explore it!

Whatever brings you to street photography – curiosity, a creative block, something you can’t quite name yet – there is something here for you.

Please note - The first free intro session will be used to discuss what you would like to learn and how we can structure an effective plan for you.
