About Yennaly
Hi! My name is Yennaly and I'm a Physics major at The New York Institute of Technology. Just like many students, I dreaded my math classes; they were difficult, hard to understand, and just overall not fun. But I learned that math isn't so difficult when you have the correct ways to study. I will try my best to help you and teach you how I learned to love math. I have 5+ years of college-level math courses under my belt, and the confidence to make you a great math student!

As a student whose coursework is primarily math, I've learned a few learning/studying techniques that I also implement into my teaching. That includes knowing what exactly it is that I need to be working on. This is why my lesson plans include taking time to reflect on what subject/topic takes priority when studying. A typical lesson starts by acknowledging what the student needs help with. This could be: algebra steps, understanding the material, or just needing reassurance. It will look something like this:
* First 5 minutes - Look over homework or classwork that the student is having a hard time understanding. Creating a mental note of what my future tutoring sessions will be about.
* 30/40 minutes - Lesson on the established topic. This can include going over the classwork or homework the student needs help with and also practice problems that I think will help the student. The lesson will have teaching and self-work time where the student will work independently and then we'll come together to see how they did.
* Last 5 minutes - This time I reserve for something called an 'exit slip', where the student has to tell me what they learned. This could be verbally telling me or just one last short practice problem to see where we're leaving off.
Of course, the lesson will be different for every student and I'll make changes depending on the needs of the student. My level of teaching is primarily for younger students (1st - 6th grade), but could also work with high school students.
