About Zachary
I have 30 years experience playing music, first as a drummer, then as a guitar player and singer. I have been writing, recording and performing music since I was a teenager. I absolutely love music, and have had an opportunity to play a number of genres over the years. During that time I have also been teaching drums and guitar as a side hustle, and really enjoy that as well. Moreover, I have dedicated my professional life to teaching at the college level, and therefore have years of formal training and experience as a teacher. In 2021 I graduated with my PhD, and am currently an associate professor of government at a community college in Dallas, Texas. These two aspects of my life combined make me an excellent candidate to teach you a new instrument! I know how to make a lesson efficient, fun and understandable. I look forward to getting started, so reach out ASAP!

I have been playing music since I was 10 years old - first drums and then guitar starting when I was about 16. I started teaching guitar around 19, and have taught guitar players of all styles and skill levels. I have been writing, recording and performing my own music for as long too, so I am myself an experienced musician.
I also have years of formal teaching experience as an associate professor at a community college in Dallas, Texas. I am formally trained and experienced in finding the most efficient AND fun way to pass on my knowledge as a guitar player.
Learning an instrument is a lot like learning a new language. It can be boring because at first a student is memorizing words and conjugations, or chords and scales, etc. For many, this is not particularly stimulating. That's why in my judgement getting to the fun stuff as quickly as possible makes sticking with it much more likely.
A typical guitar beginner lesson plan would start with learning a few chords, and then ask the student to practice those chords with a few songs they like. You can be playing songs by the first few weeks! From there we build on that knowledge, learning new chords, strumming patterns, etc.
I'd love to get started asap, so please reach out and schedule your first session!
