About Carita

I have a M.Sc. in synthetic organic chemistry from the University of Calgary and a B.Sc. (double major with distinction) in chemistry and microbiology from UVic. I have been tutoring undergraduate students for 10+ years for a range of chemistry courses including: general chemistry, organic chemistry I/II, spectroscopy, introductory biochemistry, MCAT prep for the chemistry component.
My goals with teaching chemistry are centred around helping students go from a "I hate chemistry" mindset to a "this is not that bad" mindset. I am on the autism spectrum and luckily my special interest is finding ways to make chemistry concepts accessible to all levels of experience, and interesting to self-proclaimed non-chemists.

About the lesson

I am flexible in how our sessions proceed. Most of the time you would come with some specific problems from lecture notes or laboratory information that need to be explained, but I am happy to go through practice exams and problem sets as well.
Because of my passion for chemistry education, I often will make some additional problem worksheets that are tailored to your specific desired focus areas in the course.
In the first lesson I will ask about your other courses and interests so that I can find ways to connect content with your other learning / real-world interests.
