About Synthia
I am a Primary Orff Music Specialist on Prince Edward Island in Atlantic Canada. I have a Bachelor of Music Education Degree as well as a Masters in Music and Literacy Education. I have taught within our public schools for over 20 years. When people watch me teach, they describe my classes as engaging, fluent, and joyful.
The word Orff Specialist needs to be explained. I have completed 3 levels of training in this special approach to teaching music. It is holistic in nature and is student-centered rather than teacher-led. We sing, play, move, and most importantly create.
I love working with young learners and my classes alternate between locomotor and non-locomotor activities. The 30 minutes of a class fly by. My classes for littles have a literacy connection and usually follow an adventure based on a book. I have been teaching piano at a conservatory for the last few years and recorder instruction is a passion of mine. I will be publishing a new recorder resource at the end of July 2022.
I hope to see you soon, to learn and grow together.

I am an Orff music specialist with a graduate degree in music education and literacy education. I believe in a student-centered model and see myself as a facilitator in their music education journey.
I teach piano using a resource called Celebrate Piano. It gets kids reading intervallically - reading melodic contour and recognizing relationships between notes. A typical piano lesson would begin with some rhythm games and move into repertoire after our warm-up.
My recorder lessons include singing, playing, moving, and creating and take students through repertoire introducing B A G E and D. The approach is one I have designed myself and I can provide the repertoire to interested students. Our class would start with a welcome song and move into learning repertoire through movement and singing before transferring our knowledge to the recorder.
Music Adventures are developed around a theme such as "The Wishing Star" or " Big Blue Boat" Students will develop and explore singing skills, move creatively, and develop developmentally appropriate composition skills.
I am a Primary Specialist so my ideal age range is 4 to 9 years- old. Piano lessons can begin with 5-year-olds and recorder instruction with 7 to 9 years- old. I have extensive training as an Orff specialist and I integrate singing, playing, moving, and creating in every lesson.
