About Lorraine

My underlying goal as an educator is to instil in students a sense of belief in themselves as learners. By helping students to develop identities as confident and competent individuals, I aim to equip young people with fundamental tools that will serve them throughout their learning journeys at school and beyond.

I believe that all students have significant experiences, knowledge, skills and understanding that can be capitalised on in the teaching and learning partnership.

I value cultural and linguistic diversity and believe that helping children to develop responsive attitudes and dispositions such as empathy, tolerance and open mindedness is critical to successful teaching and learning practices.

I am a creative and dynamic teacher and I love tapping into students' own creativity.

I love painting, drawing, reading, swimming and travelling the world!

About the lesson

I am a trained and experienced teacher with specific skills in working with ESL students (specifically ages 3 and 4 but I can work with older primary aged children). My field of expertise is in literacy , encompassing reading and phonics instruction, writing, listening and speaking. I am passionate about using quality children's literature and have research based knowledge about using good stories in conjunction with read aloud pedagogy to develop vocabulary and comprehension (critical thinking).

Typically lessons are 40 minutes in duration but they can be amended to suit students' unique learning needs.

My methodology is characterised by a child centred approach to teaching and learning, which means my teaching is based around children's own needs and interests which may be spontaneous in nature. Additionally I adopt a more formal and structured approach as in line with student's developmental needs.

I am an Australian trained educator with a Bachelor of Teaching, a Bachelor of Education (Honours), a PGCE and am currently doing my Masters in Education online with an Australian university.
