About Josina-Els

Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. My passion for music began at a mere two and a half years old while holding my first violin. From this sweet beginning, I learned viola with the Peninsula Youth Orchestra and sang to my heart's content with the Peninsula Girls Chorus. However, I felt something was missing, and then I heard bass clarinet for the first time. I knew I needed to join band and learn how to play the clarinet and bass clarinet. I was hooked for life and knew my life's calling was to share the gift and joy of music with future generations. I studied at Duquesne University for my undergraduate degree, where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Music Education and PK-12 Instrumental, Choral, and General Music Teaching Credential. While at Duquesne University, I had the opportunity to study under several phenomenal voice and instrumental coaches. I studied Opera with Xiu-Ru Liu at University and with Renata Lamanda in Rome while I studied abroad for the summer. While in Rome I performed in countless stunning and historic venues and with musicians from around the world. With solo and ensemble performances in Rome, Venice, and Florence. I also had the pleasure of studying with Dr. Karen Daley as a member of Voice of Spirit, the auditioned chorus and with Dr. Robert Cameron for conducting and symphony band. Joining the Duquesne Pep Band was tremendous fun and afforded me many opportunities to travel and enjoy time with my peers while supporting my athletics department. I moved back home to the Bay and began to teach band and general music at Corte Madera School in Portola Valley. For five years I shared my love of music and passion for superior performance. I also earned my Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Santa Clara University during my time at CMS. During the summers, I offered private lessons to my students and worked with them to continue to develop their musical skills as well as work towards large goals; such as auditioning for after-school ensembles and CMEA honor band/chorus. After welcoming my son into the world, I took a step back from my position at Corte Madera School. I look forward to meeting you and helping you achieve your musical goals. Whether it is to learn a new instrument, better your skills, or advance to another ensemble, I know we can achieve musical greatness together.

About the lesson

I offer hour-long lessons in your home on a variety of instruments and for students of varying levels. From beginners to intermediate students, kids and adults too. I look forward to helping you grow in your musicianship and love of music! - Individual Lessons beginner to intermediate: voice, wind instruments, and string instruments -Group Lessons: "ensemble style" for homeschool co-ops wanting to have band, choir, or orchestra class for their students "mommy and me" style music classes for a wide range of ages with a Dalcroze-eurhythmics focus (focused on teaching music movement)
