About Sarah
Sarah Garlow was born in Bel Air, Maryland. At age two, she began her dance training in Baltimore, Maryland at Mid-Atlantic Center for the Performing Arts, under the direction of Kristin Hernandez and Shannon Torres. At age fifteen, Sarah transferred to The Rock School for Dance Education to study as a Professional Division student on full scholarship under the direction of Bojan & Stephanie Spassoff. Sarah has been featured in many classical and contemporary roles with a variety of choreographers and répétiteurs. She has earned numerous top honors and awards for her ballet technique and artistry. Sarah attended many prestigious summer intensives to include Bolshoi Ballet Academy, The Rock School, and the selective Chautauqua School of Dance, where, in 2014, she was awarded with the Artistic Director Award for Overall Excellence and Faculty Award for Technical Merit. In 2015, Sarah was awarded the National YoungArts Foundation Winner in Ballet and was nominated as a U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts semi-finalist. At age eighteen, Sarah joined Charlotte Ballet under Artistic Director Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux and 2014 Kennedy Center honoree Patricia McBride. In July 2017, Hope Muir was appointed Artistic Director of Charlotte Ballet. Additionally, her professional experience includes guest performances with The Washington Ballet, under Artistic Director Septime Webre, in the April 2015 history-breaking performances of Swan Lake featuring Misty Copeland and Brooklyn Mack. In 2017, Sarah was named one of Dance Magazine's 25 to Watch in 2017 and Charlotte Agenda's 30 under 30 class of 2017. Although Sarah currently focuses on ballet and contemporary, she has diverse experiences in tap, jazz, modern, hip-hop, choreography, and modeling. Sarah retired from professional dancing in 2023 to pursue her Doctoral Degree in Physical Therapy.

Whether you are a pre-professional student looking to refine your technique or an adult beginner finally stepping into the studio, my lessons offer a unique bridge between artistry and anatomy.
With 8 years as a professional dancer and my current doctoral studies in Physical Therapy, I don’t just teach you the "how"—I teach you the "why."
My mission is to help you achieve the aesthetic of ballet through a deep understanding of your body’s unique mechanics, ensuring you dance with maximum efficiency and minimum risk of injury. We focus on improving the mind-muscle connection and correcting compensations before they become chronic issues, all while maintaining the grace and breath of a professional.
A Typical Lesson Plan will follow a structured progression designed to:
- Warm up the body safely
- Pre-hab exercises and dynamic stretching tailored to your specific physical needs (e.g., hip mobility or ankle stability).
- Barre: Focused exercises starting with slow pliés and building in complexity to establish your center and turnout
- Center Work: Port de bras, adagio, and pirouette preparation, emphasizing weight transfer and épaulement
- Allegro & Cool Down: Developing power in jumps (petit and grand)
- Finish with a recovery-focused stretch
I bring 8 years of stage-tested experience and a doctorate-level understanding of the human body to every single correction. I welcome dancers of all backgrounds whether you're looking to build a foundation without the intimidation of a crowd or looking to refine your technique for upcoming auditions. Let’s work together to make your dancing more powerful, sustainable, and beautiful!
