About Lydia
I am a dedicated Chess tutor with 17 years of teaching experience, guiding students from complete beginners to advanced competitive players. Over the years, I have successfully trained around 200 students, helping them improve their skills, confidence, and strategic thinking.
My teaching philosophy is simple: every student can improve with the right guidance, practice, and mindset. I focus on building strong fundamentals such as opening principles, tactical awareness, positional understanding, and endgame techniques. I believe that mastering the basics creates long-term success.
I also teach students how to manage time, stay calm under pressure, and think creatively during games. Regular game analysis and practice exercises are key parts of my lessons. I encourage discipline, integrity, and respect for opponents at all times.
Many of my students have shown significant rating improvement and performed confidently in school and local tournaments. My goal is not only to create strong chess players, but also independent thinkers who can make smart decisions on and off the board.

My teaching approach to chess is structured, creative, and focused on long-term growth.
I believe chess is not only a game, but a powerful tool for developing thinking skills and character.
In my lessons, I focus on strong fundamentals such as opening principles, piece development, center control, and king safety.
Students learn tactical patterns like forks, pins, skewers, discovered attacks, and mating nets through practical exercises.
We also work deeply on positional understanding, pawn structure, space advantage, and piece coordination.
Creativity is encouraged in every session.
I guide students to explore different plans, analyze alternative moves, and develop their own playing style.
Time management is a key part of my training.
Students practice clock control, decision-making under pressure, and tournament strategies to improve performance in competitive games.
Integrity is equally important.
I teach fair play, discipline, respect for opponents, and responsibility during games.
Game analysis is central to improvement.
We review classic master games, study endgames, improve calculation skills, and build strong middlegame planning.
My goal is to help students become confident, strategic, and independent thinkers both on and off the chessboard.
