About Caterina

Hi everybody, my name is Caterina originally from Italy and currently based in London. I'm 28 years old and I am a passionate dancer and choreographer, who has been in the dance industry for the last 10 years. I have been teaching dance since I was really young, as I grew up in a little school directed by my mother, where I started working at the age of 16! I hold a Master in Fine Arts in Choreography, and I am specialised in Contemporary dance and Politics & Sociology of Dance.

About the lesson

The class begins with a few simple technical exercises inspired from ballet and modern dance. Those set routines will help you develop core-strength, spinal alignment, as well as coordination between the upper and lower body. Throughout this part, we explore musicality by counting on the rhythm of the music. We then head towards a longer stretching exercise to expand flexibility and range of motion within our joints. At this stage, an attention towards conscious breathing in relationship to every movement is essential to bring oxygen to our muscles and to remain present with the body. To conclude I invite you to unleash your authenticity through improvisation tools, finding liberation within our bodies while exploring new ways of moving. During the past 5 years of practising dance and meditation, I have noticed the benefits from dancing with eyes closed for myself first and I therefore invite my students to practice the same during my session. Surrendering to the body natural appetite for self-expression while reducing the sight distractions help us navigates everyday life challenges with awareness and a sense of liberation. During my class, I aim for the student to feel more connected to their body and to regulate their nervous system through conscious dancing and breathing. I always take the last few minutes of the session to find stillness and practice gratitude to our bodies. Note: As much as I love all type of dance styles, I have come to a beautiful place of knowing what I am good at facilitating, therefore if you are looking for anything different than this type of work I encourage you to search around the amazing pool of teachers available of Superprof!
