• When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

  I fell in love with the guitar at a young age, and it quickly became my favourite way of expressing myself and discovering new music. Since then, I've developed my skills through years of playing, performing, songwriting and studying music, and I still get the same enjoyment from picking up a guitar today.

• Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

  Jimi Hendrix. His creativity, tone and approach to the guitar completely changed the way people thought about the instrument. I can listen to his playing over and over and still find something new to appreciate.

• Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

  One of the most rewarding things I can teach is how to take a song you love and break it down from scratch. We can look at the chords, rhythm, technique and theory behind it, then gradually build it back up until you can confidently play it yourself. I can adapt this for complete beginners through to more advanced players, and I believe learning through music you genuinely enjoy is one of the best ways to stay motivated.

• What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

  I'd say a wind instrument such as the saxophone. As well as learning the musical side of the instrument, you have to develop precise control over your breathing, mouth and lip placement. There's a lot happening at once, which makes it particularly challenging to master.

• What are your keys to success?

  Practice and passion. Consistent practice is important, but I believe passion is what keeps you motivated to continue improving. If you enjoy what you're learning, you're much more likely to stay committed and make progress.

• Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

  I don't drink, but if I could meet three musicians, I'd choose Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger and Elton John. They're all incredible musicians who have had a huge influence on music and popular culture. I'd love the opportunity to hear their stories, talk about their experiences in the music industry and learn what it was like to be part of such important periods in music history.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

  One thing I've learnt throughout my time studying and performing music is that there isn't one 'right' way to learn an instrument. When I first started playing, I thought becoming a better guitarist was simply about practising for longer. Over time, I realised that understanding what you're practising and, most importantly, enjoying it makes a huge difference. That's something I now bring into my teaching — helping students develop their technique while making sure they're learning music they genuinely enjoy.

• What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

  I try to make every lesson personal to the student. Whether you're picking up a guitar for the first time or working towards becoming a more advanced player, I'll adapt the lesson around your goals, interests and favourite music. I want every student to leave a lesson feeling like they've learnt something new and, most importantly, excited to pick up the guitar again. I'm also happy to provide practice ideas and exercises between lessons so you can continue making progress in your own time.
