About Josef

Hi, am Joseph:)
I am a music producer, who worked as a ghost producer for artists, worked in mixing and mastering with LOTS of singers, and most importantly, I play the piano! I had my license in piano, and got into teaching 7 years ago, when my friend was impressed by how I am playing by ear. And from there, I kept developing the most optimal way to teach students how to play by ear, and got into online teaching which was the best decision I ever made: I can now teach students all over the world, from different countries, because I can speak 3 languages (English, French and Arabic). I kept re-investing all the money earned into my teaching setup so the online experience doesn't feel different from the real-world experience in teaching. For me, 100% of the students were satisfied in online teaching, facing no problems understanding the concepts.

If you're not friends with reading, just watch the video down below :) It will explain everything.
This is what a typical piano program with me will look like

Level 1: Piano keys

Know the white & black keys
Walking through all key names together to memorize it

Level 2: Scales

What is a Major and minor Scale?
Start playing on the piano different scales
Play piano octaves

Level 3: Chords (It will not take too long to start with chords... Like few days)

How to play Major and minor chords?
How to make the chords better using inversions

Level 4: Mastering Chords

Going in depth into chords
Start basic chord progressions
Play different patterns to make the process easier
Play our first song!

Level 5: Diving Deeper into songs

Playing the song: Perfect - Ed Sheeran
Playing with 2 hands at the same time
Using the Pedal (If you have one)

Level 6: You can play lots of songs!

Here, we will do many follow-along songs, playing some songs using all the techniques that we learned in the previous lessons. I will go slowly in my explanation, leaving you with the time to practice while I am playing. The songs are: Can't help Falling in love - Elvis Presley and Easy on me - Adele

Level 7: PLAY BY EAR

Here, and fortunately, I will have the chance to share with you the ways that I found the most effective to play by ear. And because I believe that we learn by doing, we will learn by discovering together how to play the song A Thousand Year - Christina Perri and A Sky Full Of Stars - Coldplay. I will give you a challenge to play 2 songs and correct this together by sharing with you my thought process behind playing by ear. The songs are: Stay with me - Sam Smith and All of me - John Legend

Level 8 & 9: Fast Learning

Discover techniques to quickly know the melody by ear
Discover techniques to directly recognize the chord progression
Discover techniques to directly know the scale
The exceptions to the rules

Level 10: Make it sound Magic

This is a special part of the lessons, where I will guide you through my ways of playing like a pro on the piano, and use my full hand to play. But it's not all theory: We will learn a song called ABCDEFU - GAYLE, and trending song by the time I am writing this. My goal is to make you independent as much as possible, so in the future you don't have to learn from teachers on how to sound like a pro. I placed everything you need to know here, to make the songs that you play sound magic. You will be amazed by how much you can do with the knowledge we gained!

Level11: Improvisation

Here, we are not going to do in depth into improvisation, since we already are able to transform songs from boring to exciting. We learned how to play melody and chords in the right hand at the same time, and how to play octaves with your left hand all over the piano. But this section, is going to be dedicated on how to play a melody you like it. So it's more like composition or improvise your composition. It's a fun section if you want to level up in piano.

Level 12: Reading Notes

Learn how to read Treble and Bass clef
Use key signatures

Level 13: Rhythms

Dots, rests
Time signature
Reading notes together (a follow-along video)
The different rhythms that we can use

Level 14: Advanced part

Here, we are going to to over some information that we used, and play jazz with it.We will also go over a music sheet, and using our knowledge, we will play it directly on the piano. I will also here tell you what I was used throughout this course so maybe you want to use MuseScore or Notion

The different rhythms that we can use
Dots, rests
Time signature
Reading notes together (a follow-along video)

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I started to learn the piano when I was 4 years old, when my parents took me to a private conservatory. I had a lot of difficulties adapting to this environment, because I was not a fan of playing long pieces for Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, etc... 7 years later, after having given my diploma, I started to develop a musical ear, and to learn from students interested in playing by ear.
  • Is there a particular type music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

I love classical music. But I don't think I can hear it every day :) That's why I listen to a lot of electric songs "Electronic Dance Music" in English, or pop music, and music from movies like Pirates of the Caribbean and others...
  • Explain to us the most difficult or 'riveting' lesson you could personally give to one of your students.

After I started to play by ear, I thought that no student wanted to play by ear. At that time, I had a session with a student who was desperate for all teachers: He wanted to learn, to play by ear, and there was no teacher doing that! After learning that he wanted to learn using a different style, I was amazed, and for the first time in my entire life, I learned someone I play by ear. It was a bit tiring, but funny!
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I believe there are a lot of difficult instruments, like the violin, viola, and generally a lot of string instruments. But what is certain is that the piano is something very easy compared to other instruments!
  • What are your keys to success?

Try playing by ear instead of reading the notes because most students get bored when the teacher starts directly by reading the notes. Musical notes are a very important part of playing the piano, however it is better when the student learns to play by ear (knowing how to play any song they want or sing along with the piano accompaniment), and then, learn the notes.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

I don't have a favorite musician, but I think I like playing with someone who plays guitar & sing haha :)
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your musical journey, or your days at 'music school'.

I want more students to learn how to play by ear. I don't like it when a student learns for 2 years and is not able to play a song they want... That's why I always say learn to play songs YOU like, not songs that the teacher likes to give you!
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I'm just telling students the truth: you can't enjoy playing the piano if you don't like what you're playing, I try to make the student enjoy the process as much as possible. Enjoy Your Journey Before Your Destination!
