I believe that there is no single method that works for everyone. I am constantly looking for ways to alter my teaching to suit the student in question. I have successfully helped students get into music colleges and have taken beginners all the way through their grades. I acknowledge that the traditional music examinations don’t suit everyone so I leave it to my students to decide if they want to follow this pathway or not.
I am a graduate from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and I’ve been freelancing based in London for the past 8 years. I have extensive background in commercial music and jazz and am happy to teach all abilities and ages

Self Employed Freelance Trombonist: September 2011 - Present
Since beginning work as a freelance musician in London I have recorded in some of the worlds best studios including Angel studios, Air Lyndhurst, Maida Vale and Smokehouse studios. I have performed for many of London’s top big bands with artists such as Wynton Marsalis and members of the Jazz at the Lincoln Centre Orchestra for events such as the London Jazz Festival.
On top of my work as a jazz musician I have various pop credits that include performing with Tom Fletcher (McFly), Wizkid Adayo, Tinchy Stryder, Tinie Tempah, Bad Sounds (heard on FIFA 17) and many others.
Classically, I have performed with the BBC Concert and Symphony Orchestras among other freelance professional orchestras and in more of a Broadway format of Orchestra I am a member of the London Musical Theatre Orchestra, which performs sell out shows at various theatres in London’s west end.
Internationally I perform on a semi-regular basis in Germany, France and the Netherlands with various bands that I have become a part of through various contacts I have made during my career. I really enjoy working with foreign musicians as music is such a universal language so communication is never an issue.
NYJO (National Youth Jazz Orchestra): July 2011 - Present
NYJO London Mentor and leader
I have been a key member of NYJO’s Education Ambassadors, providing workshops for schools and music services across the UK, bringing jazz education to students that may not have had access to the art form previously. I feel very passionate about the work that we do and in 2015 we were awarded the parliamentary jazz award for education. Something that I am immensely proud of and feel is good proof of the good work that NYJO does around the country.
Peripatetic Music Lessons: July 2016 - present
I often get requests to teach students of all ages and abilities privately. I offer lessons in playing all brass instruments, music theory (classical and jazz), music production and composition as well as lessons in using Sibelius software. I currently am the teacher of brass, drums and music production at Radnor House Sevenoaks – a Preparatory up to Sixth Form school that has a rapidly growing music department. At the moment I teach there two half days a week during term time and run three ensembles alongside my teaching commitments
CBV Productions: March 2018 - Present
I started my own production company in 2017 to facilitate putting on the album launch event for the Louis Dowdeswell Big Band. The event was a huge success – selling out (550) tickets over 2 months in advance with an average ticket price of £31. The success of this event lead me to take the company further and in the following months I have been involved in shooting several TV adverts for Yamaha and other big brands (unfortunately I have signed NDA’s so cannot say who). As well as this I spent the majority of the summer producing scores for the BBC Proms. The ethos for the company is to only provide the best musicians available, performing only music that is of the highest quality. To date I feel I have kept to that ethos and as a result I have various exciting projects in the pipeline.
Louis Dowdeswell Big Band Manager: May 2018 – Present
Following on from the success of the album launch, Louis made me his band and personal manager. He is an internationally acclaimed trumpet soloist that receives regular requests to be a guest performer at events and festivals around the world. My role is negotiating fees, organizing logistics, booking musicians, booking venues, contacting promoters and dealing with merchandise. In short, I run the show so that Louis doesn’t have to. To date the band has 43,800 subscribers to its YouTube channel – Louis Dowdeswell and the most viewed video has over 941,000 views. A newly released video on average generates roughly 300,000 views within a month.
Music Arranger, Re-Orchestrator, Copyist: July 2015 – Present
I have always worked as an arranger alongside being a trombonist. In this time I have written arrangements for artists such as Susan Boyle, Tom Fletcher, Matt Henry (Kinky Boots) and Wizkid Adayo. As well as this I have written hundreds of pop song arrangements for the function agency Ear Candy and various other function bands as well as my own. I also get asked to write commercially – recently I have written an arrangement for a Christmas Cinematic advert (NDA but it’s soon to be released) and I spent the entirety of July re-orchestrating the Stan Kenton West Side Story Suite, a piece that won a Grammy when it was released and to this date is regarded as some of the most challenging music in the big band genre. As a result of this work I am now the only owner in the world of the entire set of scores to this music (several of the originals are lost/destroyed) and am in the process of getting it published.
Safeguarding: I have completed the NSPCC Child Protection Introduction course As well as safe touch, level two safeguarding and prevent training.
DofE: I have gained both the Bronze (2007) and Silver (2009) Duke of Edinburgh Awards. These gave me skills in perseverance and gaining and interest in helping within society.
Other: I am fully DBS cleared and on the update service.
I am a highly motivated, versatile and reliable musician that knows the meaning of a hard days work. I find that I am driven and determined to provide the best service possible in whatever I do and as a result I feel that is the main reason behind the success that I have seen throughout my career to date. Recently I sustained a facial injury, while playing football, that has left me sidelined from professional playing and I am looking to expand my skillset and feel that I could be of great use in many different roles. I am open to new experiences and am very quick on the uptake of new skills. A good example of this is that I taught myself to play the Tuba to a professional standard in the space of 4 months and I am currently doing the same again with the French Horn. I enjoy working in groups of people but am also just as confident to go out on my own and work independently.
