About Toshani

I grew up unsure of my capabilities in English until I reached Year 10, when I started seeing that everything was easier than I thought. English is a widely disliked subject, but only because nobody really knows the tricks to make it easier than it has to be. That being said, I’ve never met someone who didn’t have a full-mark essay in them, as essay writing may be subjective, but not impossible. I’m a published poet, an aspiring author, and I’m happy to share my love of English with other people to make it a little less intimidating.

About the lesson

I have been teaching and tutoring students in English for four years, and when I do, I like to teach realistically. I like to help students create habits in their learning as well as being able to understand content and apply it properly. For example, when I teach a student how to write an essay, I give them a realistic time frame of how long they should be spending in an exam, or when I want them to understand the text, I first engage them in a creative writing exercise so they can find out what an author’s intentions are when analysing. My lessons are an hour long, and I’m flexible on when the lessons can happen as I have a looser schedule, as long as they happen at least once or twice a week. They’re for 14-16 year olds, preferably starting tutoring in Year 10 as that’s an ideal time to start development, however, I’m equally as able to help a Year 11 student achieve a Grade 9 by GCSEs in May/June.
