About Michelle
I’m Michelle, I have an original background in complex health care and made a change to tutoring in 2015. Moving from Post-16/adult learning into children/young people in 2019.
As a child I had dyslexia/dyscalculia,
but had some amazing teachers who supported and inspired me and I moved into tutoring as a way of being able to do the same for others. I have fibromyalgia so occasionally get brain fog and recently I have come to realise I have ADHD - all of which has allowed me to build some brilliant professional relationships with the young people I work with as my brain is wired in a way similar to many of theirs.
Additional to tutoring I am a Mum of 1 (12yrs) and a cat (3yrs) and an artist, running art classes and therapeutic art sessions. I am also a glutton for punishment and I am studying BA Open Degree at The Open University, this year undertaking two modules one in teaching secondary Maths and the other about art in the modern world.

I am a qualified tutor and assessor, with an original background in Functional Skills and NVQ - ranging from Health and Social care to Management. For the past four years I have tutored KS1 to GCSE/Functional Skills as an Outreach Tutor, covering the core subjects of English, Maths and Science, as well as, additional subjects such as History and Art. With pastoral support and THRIVE approach being embedded in my employed role.
I am also a qualified Arts Award Advisior and run my own Creative Art business delivering both this qualification and tutoring GCSE Art.
My student led approach teaching and mentoring has developed holistically through my professional and personal experience. I work with the student to identify their strengths and weaknesses and then give them the skills to thrive.
Sessions are timed around the student’s ability to engage and I find that building this up each session often helps them to feel in control and benefits their long term goals. I believe that if a student is allowed ownership over their learning, you see better interaction and retention of information. I also believe in being honest with a student, therefore if I do not have the answer from them we will find it together and support each others development - something which I find works really well as they recognise that it’s ok if we don’t always have the answers straightaway and learn how to research for learning.
