About Johura

I've been working at the tuition centre for over a month, only one day a week. I tutor up to 10 students in one day; working closely with each of them to establish what they want to learn and focus on. I ask my students to bring in their school workbook and revision guides, books or plays, which helps me facilitate work for them to do. I also keep a record of what my students did in the tutoring sessions, and if needed, plan work for them such as worksheets that will help them for the next session. My students have expressed that I have been a great help to them; instilling confidence in their english lessons at school.

About the lesson

I am very passionate about English, and even more working with students who struggle to find the passion in the subject. I have worked as a teaching assistant and an unqualified English teacher for many years. Currently, I work at a tuition centre tutoring GCSE students on English and my job is for them to dictate to me what they desperately want help on. My lessons are led by my students, not me. I don't believe in tutors being like teachers. I don't like to talk AT my students but talk TO my students about their needs and struggles. My students discuss what they studied in school, what they are struggling on and how we can together overcome their struggles. It's all about breaking their barrier to learning, acknowledging their potential and giving them one to one feedback on how they can excel further. If required, I select resources to help consolidate their understanding further. So come and have a chat with you about your struggles in English and let's fight them together.
