About Callum
After four years of university, I am now a fully qualified Early Childhood and Primary Teacher, employed straight out of my degree. This means I have up to date police clearance and working with children's check as well as lots of experience working with and teaching children. I have worked in a number of schools both in WA and remote NT with a number of age groups and have a passion for music and teaching.
I've been playing instruments since primary school, including clarinet, saxophone, guitar, drums, and vocals, giving me an extensive background in music. I completed year 12 in the music specialist program at John Curtin College of the Arts, have a diploma in music industry and sound production and have also been an active member of the music scene here in Perth since 2010.

It is my belief that in order for effective learning to take place, children must be under consistent conditions in which they feel safe, engaged, and feel free to extend and consolidate their learning (at home with their families/friends). Throughout my studies, I have found that the best way to engage a child is to cater learning to the child’s needs and interests (creating a student centred learning experience). In doing so, this allows children to progress into motivated switched on learners. This in turn, with a focus on motivation and collaborative learning, helps in the construction of an effective learning environment and socially capable students. As a teacher, it is my goal to facilitate these aspects in my teaching approach.
The notion of strong, positive relationships with families as a necessity is a concept that I have adopted from my studies in education. Relationships of such a nature will allow parents to help maintain the constant state of learning needed for the development and assessment of the child.
The most simplistic explanation of my philosophy is to motivate students through experience (both in and out of school) to become active, engaged learners, who learn through the environment they find themselves immersed in.
