About Asseline

I started teaching private lessons as a my student job in 2014. I have helped and taught about 20 people, from schoolchildren experiencing difficulties in their studies to adults wishing to brush up or learn a new language. I have also helped language and translation students at University who were experiencing difficulties, helping them understand the material and come up with their own ideal method of studying.
I have also taught in secondary school (pupils aged 12-18) in Belgium, both as an intern and a substitute teacher.
I try to make sure that my pupils really understand what they are studying, and I try to cater to their needs to help them succeed in what they are trying to achieve - be it speaking for fun, or passing an exam.

About the lesson

I adapt my classes and methodology to my students' needs and expectations, and I attempt to make my classes both interesting and as entertaining as possible. I emphasize the development of self-confidence in my students, and I try to give them a taste for learning languages through a non-judgmental approach, trying to give them a 'safe space' to make mistakes and express themselves. My 'default' methodology when teaching a language is a mix of systematic and communicative approach mixed with games and dialogues: I tend to start off with a communicative aim/task, then move on to a more analytical and systematic approach of grammar/vocabulary, and end with a communicative 'task', game, or activity aiming at developing my students' independence. However, I try to remain as flexible as possible depending on the students' needs, preferred method of studying, and interests. When helping a student with a module or course, I will adapt my methodology to that of the concerned module, offering a more guided approach, and trying to re-create a 'safe space' and re-built self-confidence. During the first session, we will define your needs and expectations, which will then be used to develop a personalized programme (themes of interest, preferred approaches, aims, etc.)
