About Daniel

I have been a social worker for over six years, with another 6+ years’ experience in youth work, residential care, and outreach support before that. I’ve worked in assessment teams, frontline safeguarding, children in care, young adults and with asylum-seeking young people; I am also a qualified Practice Educator and have experience line managing staff.

Prior to this, my background was in Journalism, and I feel both sectors have fed into my passion for writing and communication, and have given me a unique set of skills when it comes to communication, analysis and different writing styles.

I’m here to support you with specific assignments, placement or ASYE preparation, or can offer mentoring/coaching when it comes to navigating the complex role of a social worker – this is something I have struggled with myself at times, and I am passionate to help other think about it in different ways.

About the lesson

Struggling to link Theory to Practice? Anxious about an upcoming observation? Drowning in the paperwork of your portfolio?

During our first lesson, we will discuss your goals, whether these are specific to a task/assignment, more about development of skills/thinking, or anything else you have in mind.

As an experienced leader and practice educator, I will use a range of tools to work on your goals with you, including but not limited to, writing activities, roleplay (it’s not that bad!), reflective sessions and case studies. There may also be occasions where there is homework, or I challenge you to get out of your comfort zone, as research (and life) shows this is often where the best learning happens. I can be flexible with visual aids and explanations for people who have different learning styles or special education needs.

Although I will utilise my real world experience as a social work leader, I firmly believe this is a collaborative learning experience, and can be flexible to create a plan tailored to you. I also expect that our discussions on tasks/goals will include wider reflections about social work and experiences, as often any difficulties we have do not exist in isolation.
