About Sara

I'm a photographer and artist based in London, with an MA in Photography from the Royal College of Art. I work across digital and film, shoot events and portraits professionally and exhibit my own work, so my lessons are based on how photographers actually work.

Most of my students are complete beginners. In a single session I can take you from not knowing what your camera settings do to taking photos you're proud of, explained in plain language and at your pace. Past students describe my lessons as relaxed and easy to follow.

I also work with photographers who want to go further: finding a personal style, learning from art history and the photographers who inspire you, and getting honest feedback to develop your work.

Every lesson is built around what you want to learn. Popular options:

- Getting started: understanding your camera, exposure, focus and composition
- Editing: setting up and using Lightroom, Photoshop, Camera Raw or Capture One
- Film photography: choosing a camera, loading film and getting great results
- Shooting sessions around London, practising together on location
- Feedback on your photos and how to improve

Lessons usually last 1 hour. For a first shooting or editing session, 2 hours works well. Online or in person in London.

Details

The hourly rate is the same online and in person. In person lessons have a £10 travel fee per lesson, not per hour. For example, a 1 hour lesson in person is £50, and a 2 hour lesson in person is £90.

  • 1) When did you start practicing? How did this passion find you?

    I have taken photos since I was first given a small digital camera on my 8th birthday, but I started taking it more seriously from when I was around 18 years old.
  • 2) Which artists or works affect you the most?

    For me, a great work of art is one that doesn't give everything away at first. I like works that make me want to look at them more to try to understand them.
  • 3) What are the qualities and skill required to succeed in this area?

    Like anything, I would say consistency is key. But also just opening your eyes to what surrounds you, being sensible and really paying attention to the small things.
  • 4) What is the most valuable advice you can give to help someone stay focused on creative projects?

    I don't know if I can answer this, since I'm always jumping between multiple ideas and projects at the same time. I guess it's a balance between finding things that make you excited but also sitting down and putting in the necessary work, including research.
  • 5) How would you describe your passion; how does it make you feel?

    For me, photography is completely ingrained in my way of seeing - it doesn't separate from life!
  • 6) What creative achievements are you particularly proud of?

    Maybe a site-specific work that I made for a group show at the Embassy of Argentina. I thought at first that the premise of not being able to hang work on the walls was impossible, and then I was able to come up with something that really made sense within those limitations.
  • 7) Have you ever been surprised by a student; by their ability or quick progression?

    I've definitely had some students who have been an inspiration in their drive and creative vision. It's always a pleasure to meet people like that.
  • 8) Being a Superprof is an art! What is your secret?

    Understanding how it feels to not understand something, and trying to break it down in simple terms. Also, not taking anything for granted!
