About Jack
Music has always been my passion but, growing up, I found Music Theory very challenging! I was lucky enough to have some excellent Music Theory tutors and teachers, who helped me to achieve top grades in my ABRSM Grades 7 and 8 Music Theory examinations. I want to use the lessons I learnt from these experts to help students learn - and love - Music Theory. It isn’t something to be afraid of: rather, it’s an enjoyable and vital skill for any musician to have. I am also a very experienced performer, having sung professionally for 8 years, and would be happy to offer singing lessons. I hold a BA Music degree from the University of Cambridge, so can offer some historical musicology lessons if needed, interesting or useful for academic music examinations.

Music Theory is an essential skill for any young performer. I primarily teach Music Theory in relation to practical performance, ensuring that the student understands and learns the theory in tandem with the pieces they are playing or singing in practical lessons: I find this approach yields the best results. Lessons are based on homework style tasks, either building towards examinations or simply learning to build performance confidence, musicianship and musical understanding.

I had some music theory lessons with Jack and enjoyed his lessons. I hope he will come back to Cambridge someday to have his lessons again. He is the most patient person I’ve ever met.and he’s very funny which always makes me laugh!
