About Luis

I am a published researcher in microbiology, genetics and molecular biology and so have a real-world understanding of science right from the source. I love being able to break down seemingly daunting concepts into their individual parts and showing the beauty and interconnectedness of life.

I have been tutoring university and highschool level biology for 11 years, having succesfully helped hundreds of students reach their academic goals. During this time I have conducted one-on-one lessons as a private tutor and in the Indigenous Academic Enhancement Program at Monash University, as well as group lessons in the PASS program and Mannix Residential Halls.

I also have general tutoring experience with younger students aged 5-15 in basic English and Maths, as well as introductory Spanish lessons in young adults.

My focus is on making sure that you truly understand concepts for long-lasting, foundational knowledge - not just become good at taking exams and tests!

About the lesson

I am a very visual person and find that so much of understanding biology relies on actually seeing how the various components of a system interact - these are the physical building blocks of life of course. I use visual aids and diagrams, a collaborative real-time whiteboard to improve my interaction with students, explanations and questions with reference to real world examples to help communicate concepts to my students.

Lessons will be tailored to your specific learning needs. Prior to each session, I will communicate with students to determine exactly what they would like covered. That session will then start off with a brief discussion about what aspects you are struggling with with reference to any relevant notes or textbook excerpts you have. We will then go through an activity and/or a series of practice questions to explore the challenging concepts. Finally, we will summarise notes about the concept and chat about ways to effectively embed the concept in your memory.

I have a very flexible, relaxed, and welcoming approach to my sessions. I hope to provide you the assistance and encouragement that you need so that you can achieve the results you want in Biology!

I am willing to conduct lessons with yourself and up to 2 of your peers/friends. Each person will receive a $5 discount for every other person in the lesson, up to a total of 3.
For example:
1 Person - $35 per lesson
2 People - $30 per lesson
3 People (Max) - $25 per lesson
