About Peggy

I was a late graduate as I stayed at home with my children until they went to college. I taught in public school one year but quickly realized that I needed a Christian environment in which to thrive as an educator. I respect all children's uniqueness very much, as I believe God has crafted no two alike. Being made in His image means they are of the utmost value in His eyes and mine, and it's my privilege to be involved in helping each one accomplish their goals in the shortest time possible, serving alongside their parents. Confidence comes from knowing you are loved, knowing your purpose, and from having competence that is earned by working through hard things to the finish line. It inspires me to help anyone gain insight, skill, and perseverance and to watch them apply these qualities to their next new challenge.

About the lesson

Having taught all elementary and middle school subjects for ten years in the classroom as well as having tutored students from kindergarten to ninth grade, I have experienced a broad range of young students from public, private, and homeschool backgrounds. As a result, after I have gotten to know a little about the student from the student and his/her parent, I will make an informal assessment of abilities and design a program to meet the objectives agreed upon. Sometimes kids just need help with homework, but I generally try to make sure we are working on fundamental skills and strategies whatever the subject area is. I always leave a detailed review of what was done during the lesson and what the student should be doing to follow up, if we are executing a designed plan.

A typical lesson in math, for example, might involve operations with fractions. We'll review the rules for the operations, read the problem twice, use manipulatives for illustration (depending upon the student's level), try to make a written model of nearly every problem so we can certify the student understands what is going on, and follow a clear set of steps in neat order which we will always check after solving.

I have had a good relationship with all my students, especially those whose parents or guardians are highly involved in the process. They need not be in the room, mind you, but keeping communication flowing freely helps us all advance toward the goals we have set.
