About Roy

I am a qualified Intermediate level school teacher. Certified in British Columbia in 1985. BFA in Creative Writing from UBC 1984. Varied work experience including police, security, forestry, teaching, and professional driving (buses, and tractor-trailers). Strongest in the arts & sciences,: - math, English, history, and geography. I have a long history in art as both a sculptor and a painter. For ten years I imported and supplied soapstone and alabaster for artists. I was president of a couple of art clubs, and helped create the first stone carving art show in Bancroft, ON, as well as helping to create Thousand Islands Arts, who run shows, and studio tours around Brockville. I have also done extensive volunteer work in palliative care, - helping people prepare for their death.
I am retired now, and living in Kingston, Ontario. I no longer drive, but am still in excellent health. I am not computer literate, but I think I could teach just about anything else.

About the lesson

I have worked in a number of fields besides education, including forest technology, law enforcement, security, and long-haul driving. I am certified at the intermediate level in all subjects, but I don't teach subjects, I teach people. I am flexible, and informal in my approach. Lessons are very much geared to the individual, which is why rates are negotiable. If I find I cannot help you, I won't charge you either. The reason people seek tutors is primarily because the normal teaching approach is not working. I'm not a normal teacher!
