About Dan

I am currently a K-12 science curriculum and assessment writer. I have written curriculum and assessments aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards for the past four years. Prior to that I was a middle school and high school science teacher in a small town. I have experience teaching middle school science, earth science, biology, chemistry, physics and environmental science. Altogether, my students had a 97% passing rate on New York State's Regents examinations.

About the lesson

-I pre assess to better understand where the learner is on their journey to mastering content area knowledge and skills.
-I engage the learner with high quality resources such as online simulations, websites, datasets, info graphics, graphic organizers, and more.
-I scaffold the learner to a better understanding of the concept or skill through various questioning techniques. This way learners build an understanding of the concept and skills rather than just memorize information!
-I review school work with students to give them a structure and a safe place to reflect on their past performance and correct any misconceptions they may have.
-Tutoring sessions are for high school students in any science course and undergraduates in chemistry courses.
