About Ian

I am passionate about the ASN sector and achieving excellent outcomes for all learners, and I recognise the importance in fostering good relationships with pupils and their families. I work with the learner and family to develop a bespoke approach to supporting their learning across the curriculum. I understand the barriers different types of learners face in an online learning environment and have experience working with ASN learners remotely.
I work with young people with social, emotional and behavioural needs and with mild to moderate additional support needs, including dyslexia, autism and ADHD. I have significant experience preparing young people for assessments and SQA exams, in supporting primary to secondary transition and in supporting learners into positive destinations post-compulsory education. I work with school refusers and with children whose learning has been affected by Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).
I am currently employed as Depute Head Teacher in a large ASN school in the west of Scotland, with responsibility for secondary. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, gardening and walks in the country with my children and my dog.

About the lesson

All my sessions are tailored towards individual learners and their specific needs. These sessions may include, but are not limited to, subject-specific tutoring for ASN learners, organisation and study techniques, confidence building / anxiety management (particularly around times of significant change, including exam periods and school transitions). I can also provide a tailored curriculum for school-refusers.
