About Nicholas

I am an experienced Primary educator and senior school leader, currently working as Deputy Head of Primary at an international school. I work across Early Years and Primary and have extensive experience supporting children of all abilities to make strong academic progress while building confidence and independence.

I have spent many years teaching and leading in Primary education and have a deep understanding of curriculum expectations, assessment, and child development. My professional background allows me to quickly identify learning gaps, clarify misconceptions, and adapt teaching to meet the needs of each individual child.

I am known for my calm, patient, and consistent approach. I create a safe and supportive learning environment where children feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and challenging themselves. High expectations sit alongside encouragement and care, helping children develop both skills and confidence.

As a senior leader, I work closely with teachers, parents, and students on a daily basis and understand the importance of professionalism, clear communication, and trust. I take great pride in being well prepared, reliable, and committed to every session. Parents are kept informed of progress and next steps, and lessons are always purposeful and structured.

Tutoring with me offers more than extra practice. It provides expert guidance from someone who understands how children learn, what schools expect, and how to support long-term success. My aim is to help every child feel capable, confident, and ready to succeed both in and out of the classroom.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is built on calm structure, high expectations, and strong relationships. As a Deputy Head of Primary working across Early Years and Primary, I bring extensive classroom and leadership experience into every session. I understand how children learn best and how to build confidence alongside academic progress.

I believe learning should feel purposeful, supportive, and achievable. I take time to understand each child’s starting point, learning style, and needs, and tailor sessions accordingly. Whether a child needs consolidation, confidence-building, or challenge, lessons are personalised, engaging, and clearly structured.

I use a range of proven Primary teaching strategies, including modelling, guided practice, questioning, and retrieval activities. Lessons are broken into manageable steps, with clear explanations and opportunities for children to practise and apply new skills. I focus strongly on core foundations in English and Maths, while also supporting organisation, independence, and learning habits.

I use positive reinforcement, clear feedback, and age-appropriate strategies to keep children motivated and focused. Where appropriate, I use practical resources, visual aids, and real-life examples to deepen understanding and make learning meaningful.

Each lesson follows a clear structure:

-A short check-in and recap of previous learning

-Explicit teaching or revisiting of a key skill or concept

-Guided practice with support and questioning

-Independent application to build confidence

-Review and next steps, so progress is clear

-Lessons are paced carefully to keep children engaged while ensuring they fully understand what they are learning.

What sets me apart is my combination of senior leadership experience and hands-on classroom practice. I understand curriculum expectations, assessment, and progression across EYFS and Primary, and I know how to identify gaps quickly and address them effectively. I am calm, patient, and consistent, which helps children feel safe to make mistakes and develop confidence.

I also work closely with parents, offering clear feedback and practical strategies to support learning at home. My goal is not just short-term improvement, but long-term confidence and independence.
