About Negar

I am a graduate student in Mechatronic Systems Engineering at Simon Fraser University. My research is about MEMS sensors, and I use mathematics and physics every day in my work.

At Simon Fraser University, I have worked as a teaching assistant seven times in two years, in Mechatronics, Engineering Science, and Computing Science. I run lab sessions, hold office hours, and help first-year students with programming, statics, and engineering design. I know the common mistakes students make, and I know how to explain difficult ideas in a simple way.

I am patient and organized, and I enjoy the moment when a student finally understands something. I can also teach in Persian (Farsi)

About the lesson

In the first lesson, I find out where the student is now: what they understand well, where they get stuck, and what their goal is (a test, a final exam, or better grades in general). Then I make a short plan for the next weeks.

In each lesson, I explain the idea first, then we solve problems together, step by step, until the student can solve similar problems alone. I focus on understanding, not memorizing, because this is what helps students in tests. After each lesson, I give a few practice problems, and we check them together next time.

I teach:
-- Mathematics: Grades 9 to 12, Pre-Calculus 11 and 12, Calculus 12, AP Calculus
-- Physics: Physics 11 and 12, AP Physics
-- First-year university: Calculus, Linear Algebra, Physics, Statics

Lessons can be in person or online with a shared digital whiteboard.
