About Jacqueline
I am a guitar tutor with 6 years of experience and a Bachelor of Music in Songwriting with Guitar as my primary instrument. I have taught over 200 students and I maintain an active career as a performing and recording singer-songwriter with two albums and a consistent touring schedule through the small-venue circuit. My performing career means I work daily at the intersection of guitar playing and songwriting at a professional level, and everything I learn from that work feeds directly into how I teach. Several of my students have gone on to release their own recordings, and I take considerable pride in the creative journeys this represents.

My guitar teaching is designed specifically for singer-songwriters, and everything I teach — technique, theory, repertoire choice — is oriented toward helping students develop the guitar skills that serve their own songwriting rather than toward guitar mastery as an end in itself. I begin by understanding each student's music — what artists they love, what songs move them, what sounds they want to make — and I build their technical curriculum around the gap between where they are now and what they need to know to make that music. Accompaniment pattern development is the primary technical strand, and I help students build a personal vocabulary of patterns — strumming, fingerpicking, and hybrid approaches — that are sufficiently varied to serve different emotional contexts within their own songs. Capo technique is addressed with unusual depth — I teach it as a compositional tool that changes the resonance characteristics of the guitar and creates specific tonal textures not available in open position, not only as a transposition tool. Open tunings for singer-songwriter contexts are explored systematically — DADGAD, open D, open G, and drop D are introduced with specific songs and techniques that reveal what makes each tuning creatively useful. Chord vocabulary expansion is driven by the specific harmonic vocabulary of contemporary singer-songwriter music — sus chords, add9s, major and minor sevenths, suspended seconds — rather than by music theory progression. I teach demo recording basics because the ability to capture a song idea with a phone or basic recording setup is increasingly central to a songwriter's creative practice. My teaching goal is a singer-songwriter who can express any musical idea they have through their guitar.
