About Samuel

Like you, I am not a native speaker of French. However, being a non-native speaker has allowed me to understand the process of learning French every step of the way (specifically the grammar) in great detail. I am lucky to be familiar with both the European and Québecois dialects of French, as well as being familiar with the style of writing and public speaking in French. I can teach all levels, be they beginners hoping to become more comfortable with the language or high school or university students seeking assistance with papers or preparing for presentations.

About the lesson

I am a recent high school graduate who learnt in high school courses from first year to AP level (I skipped my second year). As a non-native speaker, I am very familiar not only with the importance of context and immersion, but also explanations of grammar. For that reason, for beginners, we will begin with a short video or reading to introduce vocabulary and phrases, followed by a grammar explanation and short written or spoken practise and/or conversation in French depending on your level. The goal is to be able to easily form sentences on one's own, as that is by far the most important step in learning any language.
For more advanced students (ie. third year of high school French onwards), all lessons (with the possible exception of grammar explanations depending on one's level) will be conducted exclusively in French. At this level, immersion is especially important so as to solidify one's previous grammar knowledge and expand vocabulary. In addition to receiving advanced grammar instruction and review, students will discuss more complicated topics such as history or news and/or receive help with papers and presentations for school.
