About Bethan

About me (& My French)- I graduated from the University of Sheffield with a 2:1 in French Studies in 2020. Since then I have been using my French language skills every day for my job in an international business. Alongside this I like to keep myself busy as a freelance tutor and translator! My Experience: - Recent French Studies graduate from the University of Sheffield with a 2:1 - a C2 level in French -I taught French in schools around Sheffield as a Language Ambassador of the university. - Lived in France for a year, working as a language assistant in a college and in a university. - Currently work for an international business where I get to use my French skills every day. - I believe anyone can learn a language. I like to create varied ways to learn and to teach a language. No one learns in the same way, so it is important to find a tutor who can adapt to your style of learning. With these tools I have helped myself, and others with and without learning disabilities, to overcome challenges and enjoy learning languages.

About the lesson

Personally tailored speaking sessions PLUS weekly detailed worksheets based on pointers from our session AND any marking of independent work. Tutoring is a big passion of mine! Listening to what you hope to achieve is at the heart of our sessions together. Here is what I can offer you- Weekly sessions and a bundle of 4 different types of learning sheet resources: -Every week, I personally tailor our speaking sessions to cover your French speaking/grammar aims -Sheets I provide: 1) Weekly tailored worksheets- All of my students get different worksheets after every session. (Please see the Tailored Worksheet Categories section below for more information about these). 2) Language learning logs (these help you keep track of your day to day learning) 3) A Goals/aims sheet completed at the start of every 10 sessions to help direct us and keep us on track 4) Every session I also update your ‘week by week tick-list’ sheet so that you know which of your worksheets to refer to when you come to doing your independent work. -I am also here to thoroughly mark any independent work you do. -Finally, I’m also here to motivate you and keep you passionate about your love of languages, of course! All levels welcomed- - Beginners (any age group) - Intermediate (any age group) - GCSE and A levels - Professional / business level (business proficiency) - University level- years 1-4 (advanced) Working on- - Vocabulary - Written expression - Oral expression (Speaking) - Listening - Business and professional language - Literature and culture Teaching methods you could expect- -Employing fun games to help people to learn the language at the beginning, and also to gain in their confidence. These games are based around learning vocab, grammar and formulating detailed structured sentences. -Having one on one conversations in French to help with fluency. I will write what you say and we can work through how to make your speaking even better. No need for you to take notes, I’ll send you everything after the session. -Going through any grammatical questions you may have in a way that is accessible. I have a nice big white board which comes in handy for visual learners. I also use PowerPoint presentations to guide us through. -Giving you help with any written elements of the language. I mark any of students’ work they send me. -Revising GCSE and AS/A level topics, giving you high level vocab and sentence structures to use in exams to take your grade to the next level. Tailored Worksheet Categories In every worksheet comes: - List of topics focused on in the session - A reminder of your aims for each block of tutoring (although your separate ‘goals/aims worksheet’ will have more details) - Highly detailed grammar points from the session - Vocab from the session - Aims for next time - Pieces to practise for next session (Can be online tests but also tests I make myself specialised to the learner)- I will mark any work I set and any work you do yourself! Perfect! Bethan is a great tutor! I have had over 3 months of weekly lessons now and my knowledge and confidence has grown massively with Bethan's teaching style. Perfect! I am an older student, just learning French for fun and my aim is to transition my French from a hobby to something I can actually use in real life. Andy is working really hard at gaining confidence in speaking French without blocking as much. We’ve been making super progress at structuring phrases when speaking and revising key grammar points. Great work! We’ve already noticed a big change and we are only 5 sessions in. A very friendly student with a brilliant appetite to learn.

She is very open to learning lots of new French vocab and grammar and works hard doing weekly exercises to commit this learning to memory. Fantastic student! Works hard every week on the worksheets I provide and has made fantastic progress. We have been doing a lot of French conversation and are now really starting to get to grips with some grammar! Doing fantastically so far! Plus he's a joy to teach! :)

A really friendly person with lots of enthusiasm and energy for teaching French! Her sessions are really fun, couldn’t recommend her more. I’m learning intermediate French currently and have noticed a big improvement after only 7 sessions.
I can’t stress enough how great Bethan’s worksheets are. At the end of every session I receive a really in depth sheet with different sections of all the areas I can work on-
1) grammar (in depth explanations)
2) vocab
3) useful phrases
4) exercises to practice
5) what to focus in the next week
6) Recap of what we talked about in the session
7) potential future topics/grammar points
She also has provided me with my goals worksheet which she made at the beginning of our sessions, and emails me other workbooks to help! Lastly she also marks any work I send her throughout the week- It’s fantastic.
It might be clear, but I really recommend !
