About Ajeya

I am a graduate from Stanford University with a Bachelor's Degree with Honors in Economics and before that, attended The Bronx High School of Science. Experiences at both of these institutions in particular have shaped my views on learning and teaching. They have convinced me of the importance of conceptualization before memorization. When people understand what they are memorizing and then the memorization will occur naturally. My life in school and university improved markedly after these principles began to guide me. But I was not perfect and sometimes I need help understanding concepts. It was tutors that helped me build that understanding. I hope to pay it back by playing this role for all of you.

As a teacher, my greatest strength comes from the fact that I come to you not only as a tutor, but as a former tutee. Throughout my days in school, I spent many hours on tutoring websites as the one desiring instruction and thus understand how tutees think and what they are trying to get out of each session. This allows me to understand their needs even when they are unable to perfectly express them.

In terms of how I see my role, while I can certainly be a traditional tutor who simply reviews material previously taught, I also believe I can be a great resource for learning new topics, which can be especially useful in the months prior to your course's commencement as you will be ahead of the curve from the outset.

Mathematics: I took AP Calculus BC and prior to that was on my school's honors mathematics track. Additionally, I participated in several math fair competitions where I wrote professional level math papers and presented it to a panel of judges, by whom I was awarded gold medals all three years that I participated.

Social Studies: I took AP United States History, AP Microeconomics, and AP Human Geography. I maintain a strong interest in social studies of all types and can likely help with many questions in this area.

English: I took AP English Language and Composition, and AP English Language and Literature, and was on the honors English track prior to that.

As far as my teaching methodology is concerned, I seek to first understand what it is that the student has been taught and how it has been taught so that I do not give any information that could be a potential source of conflict. When it comes to the role of a teacher, my approach is primarily conceptual. Before any meaningful memorization can take place, a profound understanding of the topic in use must be acquired. I wish to provide students with a strong foundation in the topics they are studying.

I recently graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelor's Degree with Honors in Economics and before that, attended The Bronx High School of Science.
