About Vanessa
Teaching is my passion since I was a child. I would "play pretend school" on an everyday basis with friends and family.
I am very passionate about music, art and writing creative stories. Each day a student shows me that they learned something new in the lesson, is a day that brings me the utmost joy. Kids, YOU are our future and it is important to me to help you become the best that you can be!
I graduated from University of Windsor with an Honors Bachelor's in Music Therapy in 2007 and continued my studies after by getting my Bachelor's in Education - Primary and Junior Division. I've taught on a First Nations Reserve, in Quebec, (English Board), and in Ontario.
My specialty is for grades kindergarten, one, two and three as homeroom teacher, (English, Math, Science, Social studies, Art and Music). Having said this, I do teach older kids beginner music lessons as well, (Vocal, Piano, Guitar and Theory).
I also focus on helping kids where English is their second language along with helping build confidence in their new environment. Through my Music Therapy training I also have wonderful teaching skills working with kids with special learning needs. Music Therapy sessions often focus on academics, developing self-empowerment and building positive mood and relationships with others.
I am a singer and play the piano and acoustic guitar, as mentioned previously. I often use music in lessons to help our learning together.

"Does your child find math a bit daunting or English a little dry? I believe that every child has a unique rhythm for learning, and my mission is to help them find it!
With over 15 years of experience specializing in K-5 education, I offer personalized tutoring in English, (using the science of reading strategies), Math, and Music. My lessons aren't just about worksheets—they are interactive adventures.
I often integrate music into other subjects, using rhythm-based games to master multiplication tables or creative songwriting to explore English grammar. Music has been proven to ignite both sides of the brain, making learning easier for students and promoting a healthy cognitive growth in young learners.
What your child can expect:
Math Made Simple: From using pizza slices to understand fractions to real-world store scenarios, I make numbers click.
Creative English: We’ll build confidence in reading and writing through storytelling and 'explain-it-to-me' challenges that spark imagination.
Joyful Music: Piano, guitar and voice activities to build confidence and understand the basics of rhythm. I focus on making music-making a fun, foundational skill.
I follow the updated Ontario curriculum. Some of my Ontario Additional Qualifications to help your child learn are in English as a Second Language, Reading, Music and working in Special Education. I am also a Canadian certified Music Therapist.
