About Karlien

My name is Karlien, and I am a literacy tutor who is passionate about helping students develop strong, reliable reading and spelling skills. I bring a blend of formal training and practical experience, holding a Diploma in Early Learning and Technology and completing my Bachelor of Education in September 2026. I have worked with structured literacy programs, including Cracking the ABC Code, which has strengthened my understanding of how students learn best through clear, systematic instruction.

I am committed to creating a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable, capable, and motivated. I value patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement, and I take pride in helping learners build confidence as their skills improve. My approach is grounded in evidence-based literacy practices, and I enjoy working with students who benefit from step-by-step guidance and predictable routines.

I tutor primary students and older learners who need targeted literacy support, and I aim to make every session purposeful, encouraging, and tailored to the individual. My goal is to help students experience genuine progress and feel proud of their achievements.

About the lesson

I provide structured, phonics‑based literacy lessons designed to build strong reading, spelling, and writing foundations. My teaching approach is explicit, calm, and highly organised, using multi‑sensory techniques to support long‑term retention.

Each lesson runs for 60 minutes and follows a predictable routine: review, new learning, guided practice, and independent application. Students complete a reading assessment before starting so I can identify their current level and specific needs. After 12–30 weeks of instruction, students are re‑tested to measure progress and improvements.

I have a Diploma in Early Learning and Technology and am completing my Bachelor of Education in September 2026. I also have experience delivering the Cracking the ABC Code program and supporting learners who need targeted literacy intervention.

My lessons are suitable for primary students and older learners who require structured support in reading, spelling, and foundational writing skills. Parents attend sessions and students complete a structured follow‑up homework program to help store new learning in long‑term memory.
