About Mike

I have built three careers, and each one shaped how I teach.

I started as a teacher, earning my master’s in education at the University of Pennsylvania and spending 17 years in classrooms, designing curriculum, and coaching students on how to study. I then became a registered nurse and have spent 13 years caring for patients, including leading a nursing team as a Nursing Director for Nursing Facility. Now I am finishing my training as a psychiatric nurse practitioner.

I also served in the Army, which taught me that discipline and the right system beat raw effort every time.

I tutor because I love the moment a student realizes they are not “good at understanding nursing", but they just needed a better way to learn it.

Studying hard and still not getting the grades?

You’re not bad at nursing. You may just be studying the wrong way.

Most students who come to me don’t need to study more. They need to study differently. Many are losing points on questions they already know.

Why me?

I know nursing from the inside. I’m a registered nurse and former nursing director with 13 years of clinical experience. I know what your instructors expect and what the NCLEX is really testing, because I’ve lived it on the floor.

I know how people learn. I earned my master’s in education at the University of Pennsylvania, spent 17 years teaching, and was an invited guest lecturer at Penn’s Graduate School of Education. I trained in brain-based learning with David Sousa and am a trained study skills counselor. Most nursing tutors know the content. I know how to make it stick.

I’m doing this right now. I’m in my final semester of a psychiatric nurse practitioner program, taking high-stakes exams and carrying a full clinical load. I use the same methods I teach you.

Here’s how I help:

Find the real problem. Is it the material, how you study, or what happens during the test? Each one has a different fix.
Think like a nurse. Reason through any question, even one you’ve never seen, and know exactly why the wrong answers are wrong.
Study in ways that stick. Rereading and highlighting feel productive, but they don’t build memory. I’ll teach you what does.
Stay steady on test day. Stop second-guessing, rushing, and changing right answers to wrong ones.

Every lesson includes a recall check without notes, exam-style practice on your weakest areas, a close look at why you missed what you missed, and a specific plan for the week ahead.

For ADN, BSN, accelerated, and LPN students, and anyone preparing for the NCLEX, including repeat test takers.

You’re already putting in the work. Let’s make it count.
