About Ala
The individual teacher significantly impacts pupil outcomes, where more effective teachers generate four times more progress with their classes than the least effective. Classroom teaching is the foundation of our profession as I believe it allows us to nurture students' unlimited capacity to learn. Knowledge's power lies in the fact that it's the material we use to think about things. Therefore, the more we know, the more knowledge we can gain, enabling us to become more creative as we connect different knowledge domains (schema) to develop novel solutions to problems. The more powerful and culturally rich this knowledge is, the better the quality of our thought. As a subject expert, I see my role as simplifying abstract concepts to distil out the underlying foundational principles, reducing them into small chunks of key learning, then presenting this material in small, structured steps, using carefully planned explanations that "front" the knowledge using multiple models and guided pupil practice. Finally, pupils need time to engage in independent practice before a check for understanding and feedback is given, moving to the next stage only once there is a high success rate. As a teacher and senior leader, I'm committed to continuously developing; therefore, I seek ways to become more proficient as a classroom practitioner, requesting observations on specific aspects of my classroom practice or recording my teaching for lesson analysis, reading and observing colleagues.

Online tutoring utilises evidence-based teaching methods, employing direct instruction with concepts chunked into key learnings that are explained, modelled, and practised. There are regular checks for understanding before moving on to the next concept. Practice forms the core of the learning process, using complete model answers, partial modelling, and working through examples to help structure thinking and develop learning. This is followed by massed and interleaved practice to help embed the learning. Lessons last one hour. Experienced teacher with 15 years of experience teaching GCSE science and A-Level chemistry. I am a senior leader responsible for the whole school behaviour, culture, and ethos, in addition to raising aspirations and enrichment.
