About Jimmy Y

Dr. Jimmy Y. Zhong (Dr. JZ), is a renowned Psychologist, Neuroscientist, and National Master (NM)-level Chess Player from Singapore (Elo rating: 2200+). He earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and his Doctorate from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) in Atlanta, GA, USA. With exceptional academic prowess, Dr. JZ graduated as the No. 1 Graduate Research Scholar at both NUS and Georgia Tech, a feat that demonstrates his tremendous hard work and determination. He brings those same skills to the digital world, hosting a popular YouTube channel @JZChessVivaForever -- (concealed information) -- featuring online recordings of his numerous chess lessons and masterclasses. As of now (April 2026), his videos have attracted > 420,000 views and thousands of likes. Previously, Dr. JZ had won many chess awards and a few memorable achievements are as follows: He led Team Singapore to victory in the 2020 World Chess League during the COVID-19 pandemic, dominating the matches against teams from Bulgaria, New Zealand, USA, the Philippines, Argentina, and Switzerland. He was First at both the 2016 Martin Luther King Jr. Day Rapid Chess Tournament, where he dominated the competition with a score of 4.5 out of 5, and the 2010 NUS Open Rapid Chess Championship, where he finished with a stellar 6 out of 7 points, beating some of the best players in Singapore. Dr. JZ shows us that with the right mindset, anything is possible -- whether it’s mastering the mind, the brain, or the board.

About the lesson

FOREWORD: When contacting Dr. JZ, please indicate your (i) FULL NAME, (ii) MOBILE NUMBER, and (iii) ACTIVE E-MAIL. LESSON LAYOUT: Dr. JZ's chess lessons follow the teachings of the Soviet School of Chess, founded by GM Mikhail Botvinnik, the 6th World Chess Champion. This methodology emphasizes a comprehensive, strategic approach to all stages of the game, ensuring that you develop a deep understanding of every phase — from the opening to the middlegame and to the endgame.

Each lesson will begin with a training game played against me, Dr. JZ. After that, we will analyze the mistakes made and discuss ways to improve. The second half of the lesson will focus on the underlying theories and principles that govern sound chess openings, middlegame tactics, and endgame strategies.

At the end of each lesson, all relevant lesson materials, including video recordings whenever possible, will be shared with you, allowing you to review and reinforce the concepts and strategies we covered at your own pace.
