About Abe
Hi! I am Abe! (yes, short for Abraham). I tutor in middle school mathematics (8th grade and younger). In middle school, I did not always enjoy my math, and so I totally understand that math isn't always very fun. I want you (the student) to know that you have the brains and the potential to learn something difficult even if you don't love the subject. I have tutored mathematics part-time for a year now, and have years of experience using this math, both in my professional and personal life. I am currently a college student studying Finance, and the math that I tutor is math that I use regularly in my coursework. I look forward to being your tutor!

I typically work with middle school aged students (8th grade and lower) in all aspects of mathematics - with a specialty in Algebra. I believe in teaching the why behind math, not just the how. Students are encouraged to see the practicality of math and how it could benefit their future. I believe that it requires trust for a student to learn best, and so I focus on getting to know and building a relationship with my students.
My teaching approach is three pronged: learn, practice, and teach.
Learn: I teach the student the concept, and give example questions. Then, the student completes the same practice questions, with me guiding them.
Practice: I give the student practice questions, and allow the student to complete those individually. If a mistake is made, I provide correction, and explain the issue.
Teach: After I have explained an issue, the student is instructed to explain back to me the issue and the math rule. Students are regularly given a practice problem and have to verbally explain to me how to properly complete the problem, as if they were the teacher. I pretend to be a student who does not understand, requiring them to give extra details as they explain the concept.
Flexibility: I typically work with a pre-created school or homeschool curriculum with questions, quizzes, etc. However, I am happy to provide homework or additional practice as needed.
