About Josiah

I'm a certified ESL tutor with a TEFL certification and a bachelor's degree in foreign languages. I've taught English to students from various backgrounds in both classroom and in small-group tutoring settings, including time spent teaching abroad in Central and South America. I know what it’s like to learn a new language, and I bring that same empathy and understanding to every lesson I teach. My students describe me as patient, encouraging, and easy to talk to. I take time to understand your goals and tailor each session to your learning style. About the lesson

As a TEFL-certified English tutor with a bachelor’s degree in foreign languages, my teaching approach is rooted in empathy, clarity, and practical communication. I’ve taught students of all ages and backgrounds—both in the U.S. and abroad—so I understand how important it is to create a learning space where students feel supported and confident.
I believe language learning should feel natural, engaging, and personalized. My lessons are highly student-centered, meaning I tailor each session to your goals, learning style, and pace. I often incorporate real-life language, visuals, and conversation practice to make learning meaningful and effective. Because I’ve studied and spoken other languages (like Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Arabic), I know how intimidating it can be—and how to break things down in a way that’s encouraging and doable.

A typical lesson may include:
A short warm-up or review
Focused practice (conversation, grammar, vocabulary, etc.) using real-world examples.
Corrective feedback and guidance in a supportive, non-judgmental way.
Optional homework or follow-up suggestions to keep progress going.

What sets me apart is my ability to connect with students on a personal level and adjust in real-time based on their needs. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all instruction—every learner is unique, and I work hard to make sure you feel seen, heard, and understood.
